What is Rail Travel News?

Rail Travel News is a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 size, 24-28 page mini-magazine that is published twice monthly, for 24 issues per year. Publication began on Dec 10, 1970, about 5 months before the Amtrak era, to fill a need for communication among those concerned with keeping and modernizing America's passenger trains.
RTN covers passenger rail and rail transit in the US and Canada, with some highlights of foreign rail.
Besides the latest news, RTN brings feature articles such as trip reports, analyses of passenger train trends and future rail needs, along with photos, tables and maps.  Each issue contains the following news departments: East Coast Report, West Coast Report, Midwest Report, Mixed Train of Thoughts (most readers' favorite, a mixed bag of information and comment), Rail Canada, The Open Vestibule (readers' letters), Cars & Consists, Rail Fantrips, Quotes of the Week and Slip of the Month Club.
RTN does not attempt to rival Architecture Digest in graphic excellence. RTN is a niche publication that has been surviving for 30 years. RTN is meant for a limited audience of rail connoisseurs. It's part of a large (though limited) community of train lovers who use it as a medium for expressing and achieving their wishes for better rail experiences.
RTN's 30th anniversary issue will appear in Dec 2000, at the real end of the second millennium.
If you love trains, RTN is an incredible bargain, providing you with 12 months of information and enjoyment for $29 or less.
